We see hope in Ellie.

Ellie is an orphan and lives with her elderly grandparents. Until she was 14, she couldn't go to school because her grandparents couldn't afford to send her. Then HOPEHIV partner Hands@Work helped the local church train their volunteers as teachers and turn their ramshackle building into a weekday classroom for the most vulnerable children in the community. Seven years on, Ellie is finishing her primary education and sat her final exams in November 2009. She is now 20. Her best subject is English and she wants to be a police officer one day. This year, all 279 pupils (all orphans and vulnerable children) passed their exams - an incredible achievement given the difficult circumstances in which they live and the limited resources the school draws upon. Thanks to HOPEHIV funds, the school got a new roof in 2010, making classes much easier during the rainy season.
