LIRA VOCATIONAL TRAINING

Daniel's story

Daniel

Daniel was born in 1988 in Uganda.  In 1993 his family were displaced by warriors and they ran to Lira.  When Daniel was 14, he was captured by the rebel army and forced to live for 3 months in the bush where many people were killed and he was terrified and starving.  He told us that his human rights were severely violated.

In 2004 the rebel army was attacked and Daniel escaped.  He walked miles back to his family only to find that his father had died.  He moved to the refugee camp in Lira and was given psychological support.  In 2006 Daniel was selected for the HOPEHIV-funded training programme in brick laying.

Daniel graduated in July 2007 and has since found paid work.

"This course has helped me forget my terrible experiences in the bush.  After I graduate, I will restart my life and have a future."
